JetBlue = JetBoo!

In Random on September 28, 2010 at 6:55 pm

If you want to see the original text off my pen I posted it on Scribd But here’s the text as converted by the MyScript software..

Today I was taking a flight. let me say first that I was going from Boston to Rochester, NY, as the crow flies about 370 miles or about 6.5 hrs in a car. My flight was at 11:45 and I arrived at about 10:45 at the ticket counter.  A little later than the experienced traveller that I am would normally do, but within logical time.

I first went to the JetBoo! self service kiosk and after it determined who I was told me that I needed to go to an agent. I got in line to waited what seemed too long and went up to the newly freed agent. He began to print my boarding pass and said “your flight…” and then he called over a friend. They together determined that the second-leg of my flight Boston ->JFK JFK->Rochester had been cancelled…. and the next flight out of jFKwas at 10:00PM…11 hrs later. Remember the drive time I mentioned above?

I asked him pleasantly could he book me on another airline and he said he couldn’t…that had never been the case before in any of my travel…His response was that he couldn’t see other airlines. I withheld exploding so that I would not attract the attention of TSA employees: with my looks I’d end up at Guantanamo Bay. I said not to book me, I’d try my travel agent.

Note: my flight had already started boarding

So then I got on the phone with the emergency line for my company travel agency.

Let me give a plug for Carlson Wagonlit. The woman on the other end of the phone listened to me and gave me options. The only thing I said in response to “your tickets are non-refundable” was “OK but they cancelled my flight… this isn’t my fault”

Now lets go over the cost of this to the traveller.  No matter my decision at this point my day is wasted, the 4:00pm event I was supposed be at…forget it, and now I’m not working either.  They (JetBlue) never attempted to contact me to let me know there was a problem on their end…and they were asking me to take 12+ hours for a trip the direct flight was $500 RT and and 1.5 hrs, but 270 if I went through JFK making it 4hrs total.

In the end my persistent travel agent got me a refund from Jet Blue and put me on the first available direct flight at 4:57pm on US AIR. meaning I miss the afternoon event supposed to be at.

Remember JetBlue’s accommodation:

refund for the first outbound flight.  So lets see if this compensates me.  The USAIR direct flight cost my company more than the whole original JetBoo package, I spend the day in an airport mostly unproductively and I miss my event.

Their compensation $135

Sorry JetBlue you cost me and my company more than $135… not even including goodwill and intangibles.

I am writing this as I sit in the USAIR terminal waiting for my 4:57 flight

so far I haven’t lost my cool, yelled, been snippy and I have thanked everyone profusely who tried to help

I can’t say in all honesty that I’d recommend Jet Blue…and this was my maiden voyage on it.

Droid supports voice input (aka talk and it renders text)

In Random on September 6, 2010 at 6:57 pm

So i am composing this using my voice rather than typing in on my droid phone i do not know if the wall render all of the text correctly but i am talking right now and not typing.  4 the most part it seems to translate pretty well by do have to speak extremely deliberately free to understand what i am saying. As you can see some of the text comes up in a funny way sometimes it leaves out a word or said something that i did not expect it to translate in that fashion. This could be partly due to my old way of speaking which is quite tough to control. I was originally going to try this on ever know what i said what the heck i ought to try it on word press and let everyone see what happens. There is a sword of jabberwocky to the way the text comes up.  I’m sitting outside a christmas tree shop right now in there a lot of people outside. Do you have a droid you can try this too
Have a nice day

My First Pencast – About my book “Urtaru”

In Armenia, iPad, Kindle, Literature, politics, Random, Science Fiction, technology, web 2.0 on September 5, 2010 at 4:44 am

OK so I’ve created an description of my sci fi e-book using my livescribe pen.  It is an interesting way to tell a story. Listening to my voice and watching my penstrokes may or may not be entertaining, but I may be the first of your friends to try this so you can say you’ve seen it 🙂  Also, this is a new technology so things don’t always work without a glitch.  I have no guarantee of the quality, like anything else I do, it’s an experiment.  I noticed when I was previewing it, that it took a few seconds for it to load the audio so you may have to rewind once you hear my voice to make sure that you got the beginning part. Let me know what you think…(BTW it’s best that once you get over to the livescribe site, that you use the full screen mode selection in order to see me writing/drawing).

Bad design…FB droid app and taking pictures.

In Random on September 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm

So I use the facebook droid app.  Most of the time when I use my droid, I snap off pictures, then share the pictures from the camera app, which means I select FB, twitter, or email depending on what I am doing.  The good thing is that this way, the picture is immediately written to the flash card in the Phone.

If you take a picture in the facebook app itself and then say post it, it doesn’t write the picture first to local storage.  It immediately attempts to write it to facebook…and if it fails to upload (for example if 3G or the WIFI you were using goes down or something), it keeps the picture in the queue and lets you retry, but it never saves it to a memory as a file.

So that’s what happened to me yesterday.  I was at Northeastern dropping off my son yesterday and took a bunch of pictures and was attempting to upload them to facebook.  The 3G was intermittent and I didn’t think to switch over to to the guest wireless while I was in the moment.  So when a couple of the transmissions failed, I said I’d wait till I got outside to try again.  No sooner than I thought that, I was helping move something and my phone dropped out of my hand and splattered all over the floor, battery and all.  I put it back together, powered it up again and found that none of the facebook instigated pictures were there.  The ones that I took with the camera app were ok, the ones that were able to be transmitted from the facebook app were written to memory, but not the ones that failed to upload and were in the queue.   Gone.  6 pretty decent pictures.  which could have been saved if a simple write to memory were done (especially on failure to upload, I mean come on guys).

Anyway, I was a little disappointed.
