Down to the wire…

Or should that be stem…or core…

Well in the conversion from MobileMe to iCloud, I have to move my book website http://www.urtaru.com before they delete my site.  At the moment, I’m farting around with tumblr and for the most part I can take the straight html and css and move it over with a few modification (like turning the herculanum white text to a shade of gray).

This is such a pain.  But at the moment I don’t really want to move my site to a pay service for a number of reasons (mostly Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, Grant and Franklin).  That might be easier in the long run but I always try things that are free first.  I’d have done wordpress, but they make you pay to touch the css.  Abraham, Ulysses and Ben.

On June 30th, the old web.me.com site will come down and I’ll make my domain name http://www.urtaru.com point to the tumblr site.

Anyway, it lets me play with HTML and CSS for a bit, so its somewhat of an academic exercise.    If you want to see the pages in progress start here http://urtaru.tumblr.com/TheFirstBook   not a lot to see 🙂

Anyway, wish me luck.

So I spent the 2+ hours watching the Apple WWDC keynote…

I was very impressed. If you want to live in a world that is well defined and where the familiar metaphors show up no matter where you are, the convergence of the OSX and IOS functionality with iCloud in the middle is where you want to be.

I think the favorite feature(s) for me are the following
1) Mountain Lion Dictation (a boon for us authors)
2) doc sharing with real time updating (Pages,Numbers,Keynote,Preview) through iCloud
3) reminders and notifcations center (the swipe left to bring it up while a full screen app is up would be really nice for my Air.
3) new map and wallet features in IOS

The thing that I can’t understand is why they won’t extend Siri to the iPhone 4. I have dragon go now, and it is somewhat clunky and nuance is the code behind both siri and dragon.

Star Trek Sim?

OK all you closet trekkies out there: Do you watch old Star Trek episodes and quote Bones McCoy? Do you wish you were Data? OK can’t help you. However, my character in the USS Washington B Star Trek Sim is being promoted to captain, and we are looking for new characters/writers to take part on the crew. Simming is basically writing a story update, a scene or chapter, to keep the mission going. It doesn’t take much effort. You can write as little as once a month. If you’re interested in trying, contact me OR go here http://ships.independencefleet.com/WashingtonB.php/main/join …you can also walk through the current mission here to see how it works: http://ships.independencefleet.com/WashingtonB.php/sim/viewpost/323
